RUSSELLVILLE, Ark (KTHV) - The Russellville Police Department and Pope County Prosecuting Attorney David Gibbons are investigating the legality of a cyber cafe in downtown Russellville.
Cyber Zone is a cafe that provides Internet service for a fee. They also have casino style electronic games to play. The player buys a card to use to play the games and if they win, they receive cash.
Police say they've received several complaints, which sparked the investigation.
Officer Joshua McMillian with the Russellville PD says, "We have investigated it. We went in, and we saw what activities they were doing and we recorded those activities for our investigation. We have since forwarded that over to our Prosecuting Attorney's and the Prosecuting Attorney's office has an investigation and are in the course of deciding what action to take."
The owner of Cyber Zone was not available for an on-camera interview but says her business is legal, just like other sweepstakes games.
McMillian says, "We have not had any other complaints on any other cyber cafes in Russellville and we are unaware of anymore being in the city limits of Russellville."
